Professor Milan Mihaljević, Ph.D., Head of the Scientific Centre of Excellence for Croatian Glagolithism, Wins the 2015 State Science Award
Head of the Scientific Centre of Excellence for Croatian Glagolithism Professor Milan Mihaljević, Ph.D. has won the 2015 State Science Award. Milan Mihaljević, Ph.D. is the head of the Department of Grammar of the Croatian Church Slavonic Language at the Old Church Slavonic Institute in Zagreb. Since 2010 he has been an associate member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. He has been an external associate of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb for many years. He runs one of the three scientific centres of excellence in the field of humanities and social sciences. He has gathered 28 scholars from Croatia and abroad at the Centre for Croatian Glagolithism with the aim of establishing and developing an interdisciplinary theoretical framework and a model for studying Glagolitic scriptoria. He is the Head of the Department for Linguistic Studies of the Beram Manuscripts within the Scientific Centre.
Milan Mihaljević, research adviser of the Old Church Slavonic Institute, has authored a large number of papers on the Church Slavonic and Croatian standard language, as well as studies on comparative Slavic grammar. In 2014 he published two major books: Slavenska poredbena gramatika: II. Morfologija, prozodija, slavenska pradomovina (Školska knjiga, Zagreb, 2014) and Hrvatski crkvenoslavenski jezik (S. Gadžijeva, A. Kovačević, M. Mihaljević, S. Požar, J. Reinhart, M. Šimić, J. Vince, Hrvatska sveučilišna naklada – Old Church Slavonic Institute, Zagreb, 2014), written by a group of authors. Milan Mihaljević, Ph.D. edited the first grammar of the Croatian reduction of Church Slavonic, for which he wrote a number of chapters together with his colleagues, chiefly members of the Scientific Centre of Excellence. His papers represent a great contribution to the knowledge of Croatian Church Slavonic and the Croatian language, and a huge contribution to the knowledge about Croatian Glagolithism on the whole.
The Croatian Parliament adopted the Decision on the State Award Nominations on 22nd December 2016. The awards will be officially presented on Thursday, 29th December 2016.
